You, too?

Updated: Mar 27, 2024

Hi friend.

If you are experiencing hair loss due to COVID, cancer treatments, alopecia areata, or any other reason, this post is for you.

I’m sad you are going through this. I know it hurts that this is part of your story.

I’m sorry for all the tears, for the mornings you have woken up to a shocking view in the mirror, for every moment you have felt embarrassed to be seen.

I’m sorry that you have had to clean out your drain, sweep your bathroom floor, and pluck stray hairs off your sweaters and chairs.

I’m sorry you have had to find creative solutions to fixing your hair or covering your head from the cold, from the sun, from other people.

I see you. I hear you. I care.

So, let's talk about some practical things for a minute, because sometimes taking action is the best way to cope and create new possibilities.

When your hair is thinning:

  • consider gently using a pick instead of a brush or comb

  • try a satin pillowcase to reduce friction while you sleep

If you want to camouflage thinning or bald spots:

  • you can use eyeshadow on your scalp that is a similar color to your hair

  • check out hair building fibers like Toppik and other similar products like DermMatch

For thinning or disappearing eyebrows:

If you want a cute softy hat (for style or just to keep your head warm):

  • there are a lot of hat vendors online. My current favorites are these slouchy hats from Headcovers Unlimited

If you are ready to get a wig, there are so many great options out there.

  • I recommend Googling local shops and going in person to try them on, but there are also online vendors who will allow you to make an exchange if you don't like a product.

  • Synthetic wigs are less expensive, have many fun ready-to-wear styles, and tend to keep their shape pretty readily, but can wear out faster depending on use.

  • Human hair wigs are more expensive, require "fixing your hair," allow for some "bad hair days" (for better or worse), and can last a long time depending on use and care.

I am praying for you as you navigate this new terrain.

I pray that you will be supported with loving care throughout this experience.

I pray that your body will recover and heal.

I pray that you will land on the other side of this fuller, stronger, and more filled with compassion than you ever imagined possible.

Hair matters.

Hair does not define you.

You are beautiful, valuable, and worthy of love. Always.

All my love,

Lindsay
